All financial aid at Pitzer is need-based. This means we review your 和 your family’s financial information, 而不是你的学习成绩, 确定资格.

我们使用的信息来自 FAFSA, CSS档案, 和 tax documents to carefully review 和 evaluate your family’s individual circumstances 和 calculate a family contribution for each academic year. This contribution along with the student’s (COA), are key to determining your financial need (also known as your financial aid eligibility).

例如, if the 出勤费用 at Pitzer is about $85,000, 和 our calculated contribution after reviewing your eligibility is $40,000, 你的经济需求是45美元,000. 100% of this need with a combination of a loan, work-study, 和 grants/scholarships.

与需要相称, most first-year domestic students receive a small student loan for $3,500, 勤工俭学挣2美元,500, 和 the rest of their need is met with grants/scholarships from Pitzer, 和, 如果符合条件, 联邦政府和州政府.

贡献

Financial aid is considered a supplemental resource to help bridge the gap between the Our assessment of your contribution is based on the resources (income 和 assets) that the student 和 parents (custodial 和 noncustodial) have available to assist with college. Pitzer uses the information provided on the CSS档案 as well as the FAFSA’s Student 援助 Index (SAI) to determine an overall contribution. The contribution is based on the following four components: parent income,

    The parent contribution from income takes into account total income, including taxed income from the IRS 1040 tax return, as well as untaxed income (such as disability benefits,

    We take this total income 和 subtract tax obligations (such as federal, state 和 FICA taxes) 和 other allowances (such as a cost of living allowance). 这就是可用净收入, which is used to determine the contribution from parent income.

    Pitzer’s 财政援助办公室 also allows for other income protections such as, 但不限于, high medical/dental expenses above the cost of insurance, cost of private elementary/secondary tuition for younger siblings, elder care support/expenses 和 parent educational loan repayments. These protections are considered special circumstances 和 must be reported 和 documented in order to be considered. If your family has these types of expenses, please report them on the CSS档案 application.

    The parent contribution from assets takes into account all cash/储蓄, 投资, businesses 和 real estate property (including the primary home). The contribution from assets measures all assets, 液体和非液体, equally 和 takes a percent of all total assets to determine the parent contribution from assets. Only retirement funds in qualified retirement plans (such as 401(k)s, 403(b)s, ira,

    The student contribution from income is measured in a similar way as the parent contribution from income. 然而, because most students do not have earned income, the calculated contribution from income is often low.

    所有的学生 who attend Pitzer have a summer earnings contribution that ranges from $500 to $1,700(视需要而定). The summer earnings contribution is built with the expectation that students will work over the summer 和 save to help toward their college costs.

    The student contribution from assets is based on 20% of the student’s total assets,
